For publishers, labels and media
Publishers and licensing
Anyone who wishes to release, broadcast, use in film and media, or re-edit music by Harry Pepl will find here where the rights lie and how enquiries are handled.
Rights at a glance
Compositions. As far as they have been documented, Harry Pepl's works are registered with the AKM (the Austrian collecting society for authors, composers and music publishers). For each work, the Catalogue of works gives, where documented, the AKM work number, the ISWC, the authors and the publisher. For the works released from the estate, the publisher entered is “Pepl Daniel Musikverlag”. Some works that appeared during his lifetime on albums by other labels are registered with those labels' publishers, for example the publishers of ECM or Amadeo.1 For pieces created after 2005 together with other musicians from Pepl's tracks, those musicians are entered as co-authors.2
Recordings from the estate. The releases from the estate since 2015, including the albums by the Lonely Single Swinger Band, “Consequence”, “N.Y.C. Impressure” in its 2020 reissue and “Harry Pepl (tape) & The (Lonely) Single Swinger Band: Live” (2025), are issued by Fullmax Recordings, which holds the rights to these recordings.3
Historical recordings. The albums released during his lifetime belong to the respective labels and rights holders, for example ECM (“Werner Pirchner / Harry Pepl / Jack DeJohnette”, “Cracked Mirrors”, “Schattseite”, “Volver”), Universal Music (among others “Live in Concerts” by the Jazzzwio and the reissues of “Light Blues” and “Schoenberg Improvisations”), Mood Records, Moers Music, PAO Records, Extraplatte, Label Bleu or Harmonia Mundi. For broadcast recordings, rights also lie with the ORF (Austrian public broadcaster) and other broadcasters. Which label released a recording is stated in the Discography.
Performers' rights. The neighbouring rights of Harry Pepl as a performing musician are managed by the LSG (the Austrian collecting society for neighbouring rights).
Photographs. For photographs, the rights of the respective photographers apply. The photo credit appears beneath each image (Photos).
Enquiries
Please send enquiries about licences, synchronisation in film, television, advertising and games, sampling, sheet music editions, editions and re-releases to the estate via the form Licence and synchronisation. For publishing and edition projects there is also the enquiry type Publisher and edition. It helps to give details of the work or recording (ideally with the identifier from the catalogue of works or the discography), the type and scope of use, territory, duration and schedule. For recordings by other labels and works by other publishers, their rights holders are responsible; label and publisher are given in the discography and the catalogue of works.
This page gives an overview of the known rights situation. It is not legal advice and creates no commitments; the entries held by the collecting societies and the respective contracts are decisive.
