How to cite the platform, individual entries and data correctly

Citing

All releases and works have fixed identifiers, so that information from the Harry Pepl Archive remains findable even if titles or addresses change. This page explains how to cite the platform, individual entries and the open data.

Identifiers

  • HP-T-nnnn stands for releases (Tonträger), that is, albums, singles and editions, numbered consecutively by year of release.
  • HP-W-nnnn stands for works (Werke), numbered consecutively by title.

An identifier is never reassigned and remains in place even if a title is corrected or an entry is revised. Every release and work page shows its identifier, its address and a ready-made citation to copy.

What a citation should contain

  1. Harry Pepl Archive as the issuer of the citation
  2. Title of the entry
  3. Identifier in square brackets, if available
  4. Full address of the page
  5. Date of access

Examples

The identifiers and addresses in the examples are placeholders; the correct details appear on the respective page.

Primary sources

The platform brings sources together and refers to them, but does not replace them. Anyone using facts in a publication should, wherever possible, name the primary source: the release with label and catalogue number, the programme booklet, the newspaper article with date and page, or the research literature with page reference. The two academic works on Harry Pepl are cited as follows:

  • Kohler, Nikolaus: Harry Pepl. Ein Porträt des Musikers und Komponisten. Diplomarbeit (diploma thesis), University of Vienna 2006.
  • Heckel, Stefan: Instant Composing. Das Spätwerk des Jazzgitarristen und Komponisten Harry Pepl. Dissertation, University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna 2024.

Further titles and details are given in the Literature archive. Errors and additions can be reported via the contact form.
