Tracks
The Berger Havlicek Orchester are Wolfram Berger (voice), Pepl’s former student Peter Havlicek (contraguitar, electric guitar), Wolfgang Puschnig (saxophone, flute), Christian Bakanic (accordion, keyboards) and Peter Rosmanith (percussion). The programme combines the Wienerlied, Vienna’s own song tradition, and jazz with texts by Johann Nestroy, H. C. Artmann, Christine Nöstlinger and Kurt Schwitters through to songs by Fabrizio De André, Paolo Conte and Friedrich Hollaender.
As the twelfth track the ensemble plays Pepl’s Die alte Mär und das Mann as a Wienerlied. The idea came from Pepl: after a lesson in Graz he suggested to Havlicek that he play the piece that way, and wrote it out for him specially.1
