Giacinto Scelsi
An influence: Pepl heard about Scelsi’s way of working in a radio programme and was fascinated. He called him „den in der Höhle Lebenden“ [“the one who lives in the cave”] and himself compared his own secluded work in his home studio with Scelsi’s. The liner notes to “Schönberg Improvations” (1990) name Scelsi’s “method of writing” as an inspiration.
Italian composer and poet (1905 to 1988), a solitary figure of post-war modernism who lived in seclusion in Rome; he developed his works from improvisations at the piano and on electronic instruments, which assistants transcribed.
