Essay by the musicologist and Ö1 (the ORF's cultural radio) editor Irene Suchy in the anniversary book marking 50 years of the culture prizes of Lower Austria. As an example of a jury that may also “highlight what has been overlooked”, she names “the great instrumentalist and composer Harry Pepl” and later mentions “Pepl’s career with the legendary ORF Big Band”. The list of prizewinners shows Pepl with a photograph for the promotion prize of 1991, lists him for the prize of honour of 1998 and mentions the duo with Werner Pirchner, the Austrian composer and vibraphonist, and the Vienna Art Orchestra, the Viennese jazz big band led by Mathias Rüegg.
