One week online: what has been added since the opening

Since the opening on Monday, 26 October 2026, the archive has grown considerably: 77 press documents, 34 quotations, 29 chronicle entries, 13 people and 39 photographs have been added, along with two recordings and one video.

As of Monday, 2 November 2026, it lists 492 press documents, 362 quotations, 306 chronicle entries, 293 people, 207 photographs, 119 recordings, 193 works and 50 videos, each entry with its source. More than 60 reviews from the 1980s came from Hernstein, Lower Austria, into the press archive; the originals can be viewed after signing in. In one of them, Werner Pirchner speaks in 1983 of a plan: on the next ECM album, the renowned European jazz label, Keith Jarrett was to take part as well, “if everything works out” (translated from the German). The archive of the mdw, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, sent the matriculation sheet: on Thursday, 29 September 1966, Harald Pepl was enrolled for guitar with Karl Scheit. The German National Library compared the list of recordings with its holdings, and 52 albums now link to its catalogue. According to ECM, “Cracked Mirrors” was recorded in February 1987 at the Lindner Studio in Furth bei Göttweig, Lower Austria. Stefan Heckel’s dissertation “Instant Composing” is available as a PDF; there are separate reports on Benny Goodman in Berlin in 1980 and on the Michel Portal Unit. Thanks to the mdw archive, the German National Library, the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt (the German jazz archive), NDR (North German Broadcasting) and the ORF archive (Austria’s public broadcaster), as well as to Stefan Heckel, Peter Havlicek, Enrico Rava and Dave Liebman. Anyone with photographs, recordings, programme booklets or memories can send them in via “Contribute material”.
