Jack DeJohnette has died

The drummer who formed the 1983 ECM trio with Harry Pepl and Werner Pirchner has died at the age of 83.

Jack DeJohnette died on 26 October 2025 in Woodstock, New York, USA, at the age of 83. He shared a special story with the Jazzzwio of Harry Pepl and Werner Pirchner: in September 1980 he spontaneously joined them on stage in Saalfelden, and in 1982 the three recorded the album “Werner Pirchner / Harry Pepl / Jack DeJohnette” for ECM, which received the German Record Critics' Award. Pepl called him the musician he most liked to play with.
